Product Description
MG Brand Refined Edible Lactose Powder is a pharmaceutical-adjacent, food-grade lactose of exceptional purity, manufactured by Saputo Dairy Australia at their Cobram, Victoria plant Export Establishment No. 659. Derived from Australian cheese whey permeate, this powder undergoes crystallisation, refining, and drying to yield a minimum 99.5% lactose content with this batch testing at 99.7% making it one of the highest-purity food-grade lactose products commercially available in the Australian market.
"Refined Edible" is the top tier of food-grade lactose classification. While crude lactose is yellow and minimally processed, and standard edible lactose is pale yellow, refined edible grade is characterised by a clean white colour, neutral flavour, and minimal ash, fat, and protein residue. This is the grade specified by food manufacturers who demand consistency, clean label compliance, and performance in sensitive applications.

Microbiological Safety Exceptionally Clean
This is where this product truly stands out. Across five independent test points, every single microbiological parameter came back at less than 10 cfu/g — far below the allowed maxima. The Standard Plate Count result of <10 cfu/g against a 1,000 cfu/g maximum is extraordinary for any food ingredient at this scale of production.
- Standard Plate Count: <10 cfu/g (Limit: Max 1,000 cfu/g)
- Aerobic Plate Count: <10 cfu/g (Limit: Max 1,000 cfu/g)
- Yeast: <10 cfu/g (Limit: Max 50 cfu/g)
- Mould: <10 cfu/g (Limit: Max 50 cfu/g)
- Bacillus cereus: <10 cfu/g (Limit: Max 100 cfu/g)
- Enterobacteriaceae: <10 cfu/g (Limit: Max <10 cfu/g)
- Sulph. Reduc. Clostridium spores: <10 cfu/g (Limit: Max <10 cfu/g)
- CP Staphylococci: <10 cfu/g (Limit: Max <10 cfu/g)
