What Is It?
Silicon Dioxide Food Grade (FSANZ 551, E551) commercially known as TOKUSIL FC-H is a premium precipitated amorphous silica powder manufactured to FCC9 (Food Chemicals Codex 9th Edition) standard and supplied through Synergy Healthcare Australia, VIC. With a SiO2 purity of 99.8% on an ignited basis well above the 97.0% minimum specification this is one of the highest-purity food-grade silicon dioxides available in the Australian market.
Amorphous precipitated silica is the food industry standard anticaking agent. It is chemically inert, odourless, tasteless, and insoluble in water, making it an invisible but essential functional ingredient in virtually every category of powdered food manufacturing. At typical usage levels of 0.5–2.0% by weight, it prevents moisture absorption, eliminates clumping, maintains free-flowing characteristics, and extends the shelf life of powdered products from spice blends and salt to protein powders and spray-dried flavours.
Appearance & Physical Properties
TOKUSIL FC-H presents as a very fine, light, white fluffy powder with a bulk density of just 0.171 g/cm3 meaning 1kg occupies approximately 5.8 litres of volume. This ultra-low bulk density is characteristic of high-quality precipitated silica and reflects its extensive surface area (120–150 m²/g BET), which is what gives it superior anticaking performance at low dosages. Whiteness of 91.0 (min 87.0) ensures no visual impact on white-coloured food products. Neutral pH of 6.91 (spec: 6.4–7.4) confirms it will not alter the pH of your food system.
