Product Description

Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂, FSANZ 171) is a food-grade white mineral pigment with ≥98.0% purity. It delivers brilliant, opaque white colour at 0.1–1.0% usage levels more efficiently than any other permitted white colourant thanks to its exceptionally high refractive index of 2.70. Chemically inert, odourless, and tasteless, it is stable across heat, pH, and extended shelf life without fading or discolouration.

Regulatory: Permitted in Australia, USA, UK, Canada, and by WHO/JECFA. Banned in the EU (E171) since August 2022. Not for use in products destined for EU markets.

Application Area
  • Confectionery panning: Builds the opaque white base layer on sugar-coated chocolates, dragées, and candy-panned products. No other permitted ingredient replicates this.
  • Chewing gum: Used in gum base and outer tablet/pellet coating for characteristic bright white appearance.
  • Fondant icing & cake decoration: Transforms off-white sugar paste into brilliant white fondant, royal icing, and modelling paste for commercial and premium bakery.
  • Edible coatings & glazes: White surface finish on snack foods, nuts, and baked goods; used as base layer beneath coloured coatings.
  • Salad dressings & sauces: Improves whiteness and opacity in cream-style dressings, white sauces, and dairy-analogue condiments.
  • Supplement tablet coating: Film coating for nutritional supplements, vitamins, and nutraceutical tablets.
  • Dairy analogues & plant-based: Restores visual whiteness in plant-based cheese, cream, and dairy substitute products.
